nus (national union of students)
GCUSA is affiliated to the National Union of Students
(NUS), a national organisation campaigning for students at a Scottish and UK level.
The main focus of NUS is representation. NUS uses its collective voice to lobby government and national organisations over national issues such as tuition fees and student housing legislation.
Founded in 1922, NUS is a network of several hundred Student Unions, Guilds and Associations across the UK, which in turn represent 5.2 million UK students. Rather than each of these 5.2 million students being an individual member of NUS, each Student Union is a member of NUS.
Both higher education (universities) and further education (sixth form colleges) institutions can become members of NUS, with two-thirds of its members being further education Unions.
