What is GCUSA?

Glasgow Caledonian University Students' Association (GCUSA) is an expanding organisation providing a wide range of services for the benefit of the 15,000 full time students at Glasgow Caledonian University. Located on a campus site in Glasgow City Centre, the Students' Association has its own unique and friendly community.

Glasgow Caledonian University Students' Association exists to represent the students at Glasgow Caledonian University. It is autonomous from the University and it democratically controlled by students at all levels. All Glasgow Caledonian University students are automatically members. The Students' Association also supports all Student Reps on campus.

The elected student Executive Committee runs the Association on a day-to-date basis. They are responsible for setting policy and direction for the Association. The Association is governed by Caledonian Student Parliament that meets six times a year to set the direction of the Association, oversee the work of the Executive, set policy and tell the Executive what to campaign about. The Association staff then implements the policy decided.

The Association works within the parameters of a Constitution that is democratically determined by Caledonian Student Parliament. The Association also adheres to the Further and Higher Education Act 1994 and the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005.

The Students' Association provides many involvement opportunities for students to participate in the University community. The Association provides volunteer opportunities in Welfare, Nightline (Student Listening and Information Service), writing for the student magazine and RAG charity volunteering. It also provides the opportunity to participate in sports clubs and societies. 

The Welfare Department provides a confidential drop in service for information and support for students and can support and represent students with appeals, complaints and disciplinaries.
