Background

Caledonian Conference is the annual event for Class Representatives at Glasgow Caledonian. The project is a joint venture between the Students' Association and the University. The project aims to provide an opportunity for Class Reps to:

• Network with each other and share issues and experiences
• Find out more about a range of relevant University and Students' Association project
• Discuss and vote upon current issues affecting students at Glasgow Caledonian
• Discover more about further representation opportunities at Caledonian and beyond

Conference '08

The inaugral event for this project was Caledonian Conference '08. It took place in April 2008 and had an attendance of approximately 70 Class Reps. It involved a mixture of presentations, speeches and discussion topics, culminating in a keynote address from Gemma Tumelty, NUS National President. The discussion topic outcomes are currently being considered by the University and will be used to inform the Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy (LTAS) in the coming months.

Statistical summary:

• c.70 Class Reps in attendance
• 100% thought the event should be an annual conference
• 90% rated the discussion groups as the best part of the day
• 60% wanted to be more involved next year as a result of the event
• 66% thought the event had either went beyond their expectations or was flippin' awesome
