Sexuality

Leaving home and coming to university brings with it a sense of independence and new found freedom, which perhaps didn't exist before. This can be a difficult and confusing time in your life, particularly if you are discovering your own sexuality.

There is a LGBT society (more information under clubs and societies web pages), which offers support and also gives you the opportunity to make new friends. If you are interested in joining this group or would like further information email gculgbt@hotmail.com, where someone will be happy reply to your issues and concerns.

Alternatively, if you need someone to talk to, or want some more information then pop into the welfare office. Please bear in mind that the Association will not tolerate any discrimination on the grounds of sexuality and according to the University Equal Opportunities policy ( and Dignity at Work & Study) neither will they.

Furthermore, Strathclyde Gay and Lesbian Switchboard is a confidential telephone helpline which offers information and advice on sexuality, sexual health and any other queries you may have. The switchboard is open every evening from 19:00-22:00, and calls are answered by trained volunteers who are all lesbian, gay and bisexual.

Where To Go?

Glasgow and Edinburgh both have large gay communities. The LGB scene in Glasgow has a great deal to offer, from pubs and clubs to outdoor activities and a new community centre. These cater for a wide range of musical tastes, from cheesy pop to dance.
