2013-14

We've had a great response to the new Ideas Process and have put together a short response film for all those responses we couldn't reply to directly from the latest Ideas Forum held on the 5th November.

2012-13

You said... you wanted us to take part in the NUS National Demo.
We did... The Sabbatical Officers are current communicating on how students can attend the demo and what we are doing.

You said... you wanted us to make more of the Games Room (such as adding board gamesm Football Table and games consols).
We did... A Football Table and Board Games were added in September 2012 and wii consoles were added to the Games Room in October 2012.

You said... that there was not enough seating within the Students' Association Building.
We did... We added more seating to the Student Social Space, Games Room and Volunteer Zone in October 2012.

You said... you wanted the Vending Machines moved to the Level 0 corridor to be more accessible whilst studying in the 24 Hour Computer Lab. You also asked about installing a coffee machine.
We did... We move the vending machines and are current investigating installing a coffee machine.

You said... you wanted more social space on campus.
We did... We moved the entrances of the Group Study Rooms to the 24 Hour Computer Lab and updated the Student Social Space to make it more sociable with cafe style seating and plasma screens.
 

2011-12

You said... you wanted us to campaign against the introduction of fees for resists and increased costs to resist modules.
We did... It was confirmed in April 2012 by the University that they would no longer introduce these new fees.

You said...  you wanted Facebook banned on Level 3 of the Saltire Centre (referendum Feb 2012).
We did...
The Students' Association is working with the Information Services Department for this to happen.

You said... you wanted any computer logged on but not in use for 45 minutes to be automatically shut down (referendum Feb 2012).
We did... The Students' Association is working with the Information Services Department for this to happen.

You said... you wanted a water fountain installed on Level 1 of the Students' Association Building.
We did... The Students' Association installed one in December 2011.

You said... you felt the 24 Hour Computer Lab should not be used for classes.
We did... From Trimester 2 (2011-12) the 24 Hour Computer Lab will no longer be used for classes.
 

2010-11

You said... You wanted a Study Week in Trimester 1 before your exams.
We did... The Students' Association campaigned and got a Study Week re-introduced into the Trimester 1 timetable.

You said... You wanted the Radio Station within the Students' Association Building.
We did... The Students' Association moved Radio Caley into a brand new studio within the Students' Association Building and plays out in the cafe.
 

2009-10

You said... Through Student Summit, Caledonian Conference and Caledonian Student Parliament students were telling us that they wanted exams moved from January to before Christmas.
We did... The Students' Association campaigned for this and Senate (highest academic committee in the University) approved this change. This causes the academic year to shift and become three trimesters. The Students' Association at the same time campaigned for Wednesday afternoon free for student engagement. This was also passed for most courses by Senate. This means students can use Wednesday afternoons to play sport, get involved in societies or volunteering or use this time to work or study. You said... In the 2009 Students' Association Survey you asked for more social space on campus and a 24 hour computer lab.
We did... The Students' Association installed a Games Room, Student Social Space, 24 hour Computer Lab, Group Study Rooms and a Basketball Court. Find out more about the Students' Association Building.

You said... Students also told us that they missed not having a 'Union' (Bar).
We did... The Students' Association built on a relationship with an external bar/club. Find out more.
 


Students' Association Survey

The Students' Association annually carries out a survey of all GCU students to find out what they think about our facilities, services and activities and to establish where improvements can be made.
