New opportunities and events from Caledonian Volunteers
Volunteer your way to success – visit the GCU Student Volunteering Fair
We are holding our third annual Student Volunteering Fair on Tuesday 21st February from 10am-3pm at the Saltire Centre Entrance (see attached flier). This is your opportunity to hear from the experts, meet reps from a wide range of organisations and start volunteering!
Have a ‘get together’ for International Women’s Day
Oxfam is looking for organised, enthusiastic volunteers to organise and promote an International Women’s Day ‘get together’ (of any size) in your local community in March 2012. You can do whatever you love doing, whether it be coffee, cocktails, a dinner party, clothes swap or something unique to you! The only difference is that you will also be raising money to support women living in some of the poorest countries in the world. This is a great way to gain event management experience whilst supporting a major international charity working to overcome poverty and suffering.
Make a date with nature
RSPB is looking for volunteers to help at Whitelee Visitor Centre, home of Europe’s largest Windfarm. Volunteers are needed to speak to the public about conservation issues, climate change and species that can be found at the site. You will also help with events, community talks, guided walks and promotion/marketing. This is a fantastic way to learn about renewables and how they fit with conservation and land management, as well as gaining skills in event management and public engagement. Read more>>
Volunteer drivers needed...in exchange for a cuppa and cake!
Could you drive a few elderly people to a friendship group just once a month? One Sunday per month, a team of 3-4 Contact the Elderly volunteers pick up 1 or 2 older people (using their own car) and visit a volunteer host for afternoon tea. The older people are over 75 and live alone so these regular outings are a real lifesaver. By getting involved you will make a real difference to people’s lives and will hopefully have some fun yourself too!
Get building with New Caledonian Woodlands
New Caledonian Woodlands has a range of environmental projects (including hands-on conservation) and different activities to get involved in. February’s activity is:
Building our Roadhouse – Sunday 19th February, Inzievar Community Woodland, West Fife
The New Caledonian Roadhouse is underway. The uprights and head walls and been built. The hazel walls have been built. Now it’s time to make the structure of the roof, a ‘whirligig’ of overlapping coppice poles. Come along if you’d like to become better at using tools and learn all about roadhouse development!
