GCUSA Welfare Department hold many campaigns throughout the year to help promote issues surrounding student welfare. These include personal safety, sexual health, wellbeing, alcohol awareness, stress management and many more! However, these campaigns would not be as successful as they are without the help of student volunteers. Read on to find out how YOU can join and make a difference to the 16,000 students that attend Glasgow Caley!
With so many exciting areas to focus on, welfare is a lively department to get involved with. Not only will you meet students with similar interests, but through welfare volunteering you will learn and develop skills that are essential for graduates in any degree! At the end of the year, all welfare volunteers will be invited to the GCUSA Star awards.
What is a Welfare Volunteer?
A Welfare Volunteer is a registered student who gives up some of their time to help organise and deliver our welfare campaigns for students. (The topic and dates in table below). Your role would include attending evening awareness sessions and help out on campaign days by giving out information from the campaign stalls. On some occasions it might also involve asking studens to complete a questionnaire, survey or engage them in a quiz depending on the topic.
What qualities do you need to be a Welfare Volunteer?
Approachable: To all students and demonstrate enthusiasm when working on the campaign stalls.
Non-judgemental: This quality is essential for all welfare volunteers to ensure all students who engage in our campaigns are valued and respected.
Dedicated: To our welfare programme and shows a genuine interest in welfare issues.
Committed: Gives commitment throughout the programme and participates in our awareness/training session and at least 3 campaigns to be eligible for the Student Leaders award.
